McMinn County (430 sq mi, pop 53,000) is located in southeastern Tennessee along the I-75 and U.S. 411 corridors. We are a rural county with a rich history, made up of thriving communities and located within 50 miles of the metro areas of Knoxville and Chattanooga. Our county contains a busy transportation network including a major interstate (I-75), two U.S. highways (US 411, US 11), numerous Tennessee state highways, a navigable river, an excellent airport and two major rail lines.

Sheriff Joe Guy is an active public servant and community leader. He does not talk about service, he is out in the community every day, working to make McMinn County a better place.
Joe serves on numerous civic organization boards, including: Tennessee Sheriff's Association, Southeast Tennessee Resource Conservation and Development Council (President 2007-), Keep McMinn Beautiful (Chair 2005), McSAFE, McMinn County Accident Review Board , 911 User Committee (Chair 2003-2011), McMinn County Public Records Commission (Historian/Archivist/Chair), Tennessee Overhill Heritage Association, Englewood Youth Football (Advisory Board), Hiwassee Chapter-Sons of the American Revolution (Past President 2007), Athens Downtown Partnership Committee, Englewood School Parent Involvement Board, Community Action Group of Englewood, McMinn-Meigs United Way Review Committee, McMinn County Health Council (Chair), Friends of EG Fisher Library, and McMinn County Adult Education Foundation.
He is also a member of Athens Area Chamber of Commerce, Etowah Chamber of Commerce, McMinn County Historical Society , Athens Optimist Club, Nocatula Civitan, Fraternal Order of Police, East Tennessee Historical Society, American Association of State and Local History, Society of Tennessee Archivists, National Rifle Association, Fort Loudoun State Park Re-enactment Garrison, and the National Youth Sports Coaches Association.
